Township Notices
ROAD RIGHT OF WAY VIOLATIONS

Township roads are public roads. Township roads are established by use, petition, or dedication. Most township roads have a 66 foot easement. Township roads are maintained with funds collected from the taxpayers in the township with some state cost share. Some township residents do not access their property from a township road, yet they contribute to the necessary grading, graveling, snowplowing, and ditch mowing.
MN Statute 160.2715 addresses activities that are unlawful within township roads and rights of ways.
The most common abuses of township roads and rights of ways are:
Pushing snow onto and across the road
Removing gravel from the shoulder
Defacing or removing traffic signs
Driving farming equipment across or farming the road ditch
In the public interest, Sverdrup Township will aggressively prosecute violations of MN Statute 160.2715. You may be asked to repair the damage, pay for the damage, or be assessed with a fine.
Public roads are just that, PUBLIC ROADS. The features of public roads are not to be abused for private gain. Treat Sverdrup Township roads with respect for all to benefit from the service that they provide.
